Once a business understands what AEO is, the next question is always the same: okay, but how do we actually do it? Unlike traditional SEO, where the tactics are well documented after two decades of collective trial and error, AEO is new enough that most Kerala businesses are working from guesswork. So here's the actual checklist we run through with every client — no theory, just the specific things that move the needle.
First, audit what AI already says about you. Before changing anything, ask ChatGPT and Perplexity direct questions a customer would ask — 'best digital marketing agency in Kochi', 'top AEO agency Kerala' — and see what comes back. Sometimes the answer is outdated, sometimes it's a competitor, and sometimes your business doesn't appear at all. This baseline tells you exactly how much ground there is to cover, and it's a five-minute exercise most businesses have never done.
Second, make your business information boringly consistent everywhere. Your name, address, phone number, and services need to match exactly across your website, Google Business Profile, Instagram bio, Facebook page, and any directory listing. AI models cross-reference multiple sources before committing to an answer, and inconsistency — even something as small as 'Kakkanad' versus 'Kakkanadu' — reads as a trust signal problem, not a typo.
Third, write content that directly answers questions, in plain language, near the top of the page. AI models extract answers from content structured the way humans actually ask questions — 'What is AEO', 'How much does SEO cost in Kerala', 'Which is better, Meta Ads or Google Ads' — not from pages built around keyword density. This is also exactly why we structure every blog post this way: the direct answer comes first, the nuance follows.
Fourth, add schema markup so machines don't have to guess. Structured data — Organization schema, LocalBusiness schema, FAQ schema — hands AI crawlers your business facts in a format they can parse with zero ambiguity: your name, address, phone, services, and reviews, machine-readable rather than buried in a paragraph. A site with clean schema markup is simply easier for an AI model to trust and cite than one without it.
Fifth, build genuine trust signals across the sources AI models actually check — Google Business Profile reviews, industry directories, press mentions, and consistent NAP (name, address, phone) data. AI models weigh corroboration heavily; one polished website saying you're the best isn't nearly as convincing to a language model as five independent, consistent sources agreeing on the same facts.
Sixth, track it and keep testing. AEO isn't a one-time setup — AI models retrain and re-crawl constantly, and being featured today doesn't guarantee being featured in three months. We re-run the same baseline questions for clients every few weeks and adjust content and schema based on what's actually changing in the answers.
This checklist is exactly what Versa Digital runs for every AEO engagement, and it's the same first-mover advantage we talked about in our original AEO post — most Kerala businesses still haven't done step one. If you want to see exactly what AI currently says about your business before deciding whether AEO is worth investing in, that's a free five-minute audit we're happy to run for you.
